Ryne Sandberg and the Phillies beat the Cubs, of course

Ryne Sandberg won his return to Wrigley Field as the Phillies came back from a 5-0 deficit in the late innings. Sandberg played 15 seasons for the Chicago, where he became a Hall of Fame second baseman.

  • Michael Young wen 4-5 and drove in the winning run
  • Roy Halladay did not look sharp, allowing 5 earned runs in 5 innings
  • The Phillies have a 9-6 record since Ryne Sandberg took the helm, a .600 winning percentage

Halladay solid in return

Roy "Doc" Halladay has returned from the disabled list. He was solid in his outing against the Diamondbacks, allowing just four hits and two earned runs over six innings. He had a little help from Roger Bernadina though, who robbed the D-backs of a two run homer.

The two-time Cy Young award winner said that his movement and arm slot are back to where they need to be, and that his cutter (clocked at 87-89 mph on Sunday) will gain a little velocity as time goes by.

Derek Jeter returns to Yankees lineup

from MLB.com

Derek Jeter went 1 for 4 in his season debut yesterday. Jeter ran hard whenever he could and did not seem to still be injured. He did leave in the 8th inning with leg tightness though, but it does not appear to have anything to do with his previous injuries.

Can JaMarcus Russell return to the NFL?

JaMarcus Russell, former Raiders QB, has lost a whopping 50 pounds. He is hoping to make a return to the NFL. Several teams are interested in the 3-year-veteran, but none have made an offer yet.

He has a little over 4000 passing yards in 31 games played, but Russell can be a solid starter for a run heavy team, or even a nice backup to a young QB. Formerly over 300 pounds, Russell now weighs in at around 250-260.
